How do you cover rusted gas pipes and meter

PLIERS | Posted in General Questions on

Hope everyone is well. I have an external natural gas line entering the house on the side that is very visible and looks bad aesthetically. The pipe has rusted. Can I use a specialty paint to go over it or is some kind of pipe insulation over it a better option. I obviously also can’t paint the meter so not sure what I should use.

You should paint it to keep it from rusting further. I would recommend a primer for rusty metal and then a metal-specific exterior paint, both oil-based. If you're not happy with your color choices I would go over the metal-specific paint with an exterior latex paint.
