Validating Specs for Heat Pump Air Handlers
Hi,
I need help validating specs on two heat pump air hadnlers on Neep’s website. It makes sense that 40MBAAQ24XA3 has more modulation and higher heat output. However, considering there is only a 7% difference in lowest fan speed and the outdoor compressor is the same, I find it strange that the min output is almost twice lower in cooling mode and higher temps.

Do the numbers make sense?
Thanks

Call Mitsubishi directly and ask! They have great reps around the country who will be happy to help you sort this out.
From a quick search it looks like both units are about the same. The main difference seems to be that the 40MBABQ24XB3 supports a two stage standard 24V thermostat, the other one is only a single stage. This doesn't matter if you are using the factory 2 wire communicating thermostat (which is generally the best for getting the most out of the units).
Thanks Akos, I didn't get a reply notification so didn't check answers before editing the question.
I have a quick follow up, I have a Honeywell T6 pro currently installed by the company with my 40MBABQ24XB3 unit. It seems to operate as a one stage unit would, I get full on hot air, then fan at max speed and the cycle begins again. There is no modulation in fan setting and no discernable modulation of heat. Is the thermostat the issue or is it the heat pump configuration?
My two slim ducted units with KSACN1001AAA operate as expected with cooling/heating and fan modulation.
Thanks,
Sofiane
If the T6 is not wired up properly, it would be simple on/off which sounds like what you are seeing. I would check if the two stages are wired at the air handler and the thermostat is configured to use them.
Generally with these, it is best to use the factory communicating thermostat instead, these are not cheap, don't have great features and pretty clunky to use and configure.
Thanks, this is useful! I got some pushback on my request for the thermostat to be changed to the communicating thermostat of the unit. I wanted to confirm my understanding of the situation before I replied to the company.
