Community and Q&A

Has anyone been having problems with 3M 8067 All Weather tape splitting down the middle?

Scot69 | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

I am finishing a “pretty good” addition/reno and thought I had used a good, fairly economical tape. I have dozens of rolls applied from sheathing joints to stacked foam and am hoping this is a manufacturing glitch and not a performance issue.

    Robert,
I've used a fair amount of the 4" tape with no issues.
Does the tape you bought have the split backer?

Yes it does. It seems like maybe they cut the backer after it is applied to the tape and may have cut too deep

    Robert,
    Is it 4" tape?
If so, then you may find that 2" is enough for seams in the same plane.
I find the 4" is really only necessary when taping at corners.

That really doesn't cut it,pun unintended, as I have thousands of feet installed.
