Halo Exterra vs Rockwool Comforboard 80
I’m in climate zone 5 (northwest Kansas). Building a house with a walkout basement.
Walkout basement is already poured using Logix brand ICF forms. Upstairs will be 2×6 construction. We were planning on ZIP sheathing and 2 or 3″ of Rockwool Comfortboard but my builder recently learned about Halo Exterra and seems pretty interested in it.
Any thoughts on which product would be better in my environment? The big thing I like about Rockwool products is their resistance to fire. If we ever had a fire it would probably be 1/2 hour after it was discovered before fire trucks arrived so I kinda like the idea of as many obstacles to fire spread as possible. I was hoping for Rockwool on both the exterior of exterior walls as well as on the interior of exterior walls for this reason.
I’d really like to see a video of someone trying to set Halo Exterra on fire but I can’t find one. I imagine it’s not too bad. They claim that once you remove the source of the fire, it burns itself out almost immediately but I guess I’d like to see it myself.
Anyway, any thoughts on the two products fire related or otherwise would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Why don't you order a sample of the Exterra and set it on fire - outside, of course :)
