Glue down cork tile in new basement

user-5378275 | Posted in General Questions on

Wondering what the best adhesives are for gluing down cork tile on 1 year old concrete floor in walk out basement. Environmentally friendly vs superior bonding, or hopefully the same product. Basement floor is fairly level power troweled with some small shrinking cracks, 2″ or insulation under slab with vapor barrier. Also pros and cons to waxes vs polyurethane finish. Thanks.

Flooring on top of concrete can be problematic. Though cork is probably more forgiving than wood, Building Science Corp has a useful bulletin about putting wood floor on top of concrete slabs that might be helpful to you: https://buildingscience.com/documents/insights/bsi082-walking-the-plank

    Ben,
The answer is simple: Follow the flooring manufacturer's instructions.

If the manufacturer of the cork tiles recommends an installation directly over concrete, go ahead. You should use the adhesive recommended by the manufacturer. If the cork tile manufacturer doesn't recommend installation directly over concrete, don't do it.
