Gas encased window broke, what could be the cause?

mike6454 | Posted in General Questions on

The window has a crack from top top bottom on the lower section. The window is 10 years old. Has never been exposed to extreme heat or cold. Please help with ideas, before we replace. Thanks Mike

    Mike,
Are there any children or teenagers in your house?

What kind of window? Double hung, picture, casement? My initial guess is settling.

I have cheapo "builder grade" windows in my home now and one broke on its own after 4 years since it was installed. Another window broke about after 5 years. Neither of them were impacted. As someone mentioned, most likely it is settlement of the home and the window frames are pretty flimsy on most windows unless they are steel reinforced.
