Functional and aesthetic choices for Euro style windows to retrofit 1962 Ranch Calf.

Zone3Cguy | Posted in General Questions on

I’ve been intrigued with the functional and aesthetic values that European style windows like Salmander brand bring to a project.
I like the security/privacy aspects of Hopper style windows but can see some use of Casements or Tilt Turns in rooms.
Living Room: has two very wide south facing windows sitting under a 36 inch eve–they are eight feet wide by four feet high. They are a pair of XO and OX sliders joined in the middle sharing a single jack stud or perhaps two jack studs down the center line?
They are configured as one eight foot wide XO and one eight foot wide OX.
The windows are mounted lower than all others and they do sometimes get windblown rain so considering Awning style there.
Bedrooms have window widths ranging from four feet wide to seven feet wide all of which are now configured as XO sliders.
Bathrooms currently double hung 3.0′ x 3.0′ windows that I’d really like to see as Hoppers for privacy and security.
I would like to not add framing to break up the wide horizontal openings but of course cannot imagine six, seven, or eight foot wide Hoppers, Awnings or Tilt Turn units.
This is a clean air -coastal climate so I really value natural ventilation.
Looking at uPVC frames in Anthracite Grey.
What to do with these wider than high rough openings to achieve above goals ?
