Formaldehyde in rigid insulation products (ex. GAF polyiso)

ColinFlorida | Posted in Green Building Techniques on

My wife read an article that the foam insulation can off-gas Formaldehyde and being a carcinogen is freaking out. I’ve seen some scary incidents with the 2-can/etc spray foams where they spray the whole home and some jobs off-gas bad (likely poor application). Is there anything to worry about with the sandwiched rigid foams?

Air itself has Formaldehyde concentrations of 0.04ppm (WHO). GAF datasheet says it has 0 – 0.0011 %/weight, but I am not sure how to convert/compare that to air.

Thanks,
Colin
