Foam board in between basement bays against OSB

Hello. I’m currently refinishing my basement in my 3 yr old house. My plan was to put 1 in foam board in between the bays of my upper half walls, then R21 on top and eventually drywall. Is this a common practice? Is it over kill? Thanks.
