Floor trusses and rim joists as headers

Salibonz | Posted in General Questions on

If I am using a floor truss system( on a slab, so room for m.e.p.’s) can I still use the rim joists as a header option?

Yes, but the floor trusses need to end inboard of the outer face of the framed wall, so that the rim joist can be continuous across the opening. The trusses also need to be hung from the rim joist using appropriate hangers.
The code IRC2021 R602.7.2 has the details. Also check out the accompanying figure.
