Flashing where EIFS meets Stone Veneer Siding Below

tbanwart | Posted in General Questions on

We are building an ICF home using EIFS as our main siding directly over the foam blocks.  The bottom 30″ or so of the wall will be a thin stone veneer.  My question is if we need to have a metal flash / drip edge or something that the EIFS terminates against and sits right at the top edge of the stone to help water go over the stone or if this is really unnecessary.  Any help or details would be appreciated.

I don't think you'll find much more EIFS detail than the link I sent earlier.

Good rule of thumb with any cladding is to direct water away from it, so a step flashing above the stone doesn't hurt.

Generally adhered stone veneer should sit over a drainage plane of some kind with two layers of house wrap. I'm really not sure how to translate that to ICF as the foam and concrete behind doesn't care if it gets wet but would be a good idea anyways to avoid having the veneer pop off from trapped water freezing.

Maybe talk to your ICF manufacturer to see what they recommend.

Thanks for that. I'll reach out to Buildblock to see if they have any recommendations.
