Flangeless Window Flashing + Trim Best Practices

_lara_ | Posted in General Questions on

I had some windows installed recently (by the window company) that I feel were installed out too far for the design (based on what I’ve read). There are no nail fins so they were set in and then foamed interior and exterior.  The siding is going to be metal board and batten.

Note: I am in Southern Ontario and there is a 2′ overhang.

1. It seems like there is a lot of foam, especially the top. How much should I be removing and what is the best course of action for metal flashing and trim style? The first flashing done by my siding contractor wasn’t great and I’m having trouble trusting him now.

That said, I think I will do the next round of flashing on the outside and have some 3M 8068 All-weather on hand. Any guidance as to how to manage the top would be appreciated. I’m thinking I do almost like a 90 degree from the sides of the window and then across the foam to the tyvek?

2. Are these bad enough that I should request they be torn out and re-installed?

Thank you for your thoughts.
