Fiberglass door w/ sub .17 u factor in odd width
We’re in the process of renovating (full gut) 20 historic masonry row homes. The goal is to prove that energy efficiency can be a priority even while working on homes in historic districts. We’ve received an exception from the governing historic body to use fiberglass doors in lieu of the normally required wood. The issue we’re having is that our rough openings are in many cases too wide to use a 36” or 42” door without building in the openings (something that we are not permitted to do). In some cases, a double door could be used but finding something that meets the sub .17 u factor requirement and will not compromise our air tightness goals seems unlikely. To make things more difficult, the doors must be four or six panel (fully opaque). We’re struggling to find a manufacturer with molds for 38/40/44 inch widths. Any ideas? Thanks very much.

Windows24.com sells windows made in Germany. They do not sell fiberglass but sell wood and extremely realistic looking wooden windows. You can see the price for your custom sizes right on there website. Not sure if this will work but hopefully it helps. Good luck!
Not sure where you are located, check out Duxton in Canada.
ProVia has fiberglass doors up to 42" wide (RO width = 44") with a .15 u-factor. At that width, 4 or 6 panel is not available, only a flush door.

Appreciate it. I planned on mentioning ProVia in our next preconstruction meeting. I’m a little unclear based on the website. What sizes are available in the four and six panel configurations/which product line? I appreciate your help.
4-Panel Fiberglass Door: Doesn't look like we have any 4 panel doors.
6-Panel Fiberglass Door:
- Signet (woodgrain textured): up to 36" x 96"
- Heritage (woodgrain textured): up to 36" x 96"
- Heritage (smooth): up to 36" x 96"
These are nominal sizes so the rough opening width for 36" nominal width would be be 38". We can do custom brickmold sizing (both width and height) to a specific brick opening so if they let you buildin the rough opening at least that could help trim out the exterior by running the brickmold all the way out to the original brick opening.
If these homes are considered residential single family then Signet has a better finish warranty and the woodgrain is more realistic than on the Heritage doors.
