Installing Foil-Faced Polyiso Rigid Board
If installing 1″ foil-faced polyiso rigid board beneath the floor joists of a home on brick piers (crawl space is open for ventilation on three sides), and the home has no sub-floor (1881 construction and the pine floors do not have a subfloor beneath), if incorporating fiberglass batts in the cavities between the joists (batts do not currently exist), should the batts be faced or unfaced?
If faced, and if the batts are flush against the bottom of the floor, should the facer be up?
If faced, and if the batts are installed along the bottoms of the cavities and directly above the rigid polyiso with an air gap between the batts and the bottom of the wood floor, should the facer be up or down?
Does the facer position matter if installing the rigid polyiso under the joists?
I would think that unfaced batts may be the best way to go, but finding them in my area is difficult. (Greater New Orleans, LA area).
Thanks.
