ERV not working
We were cleaning the pie shaped filters and discovered that 2 out of the 6 were dirtier. We then turned on the ERV in our bathroom to see if the wheel would spin. It would not. What could have caused this?
Thank you.

A make and model would be helpful. I am guessing that there's a motor that turns that pie, in which case it might have seized. It's also possible it's coupled to one of the fan motors, in which case the coupling would be the most suspect.
That would help, wouldn't it. UltimateAir ERV 200DX. Yes, it has a motor. When we turned on the ERV (from the bathroom), it sounded like it was running, but the wheel wasn't turning. And from the looks of those 2 filters, it had been a while.
Try giving the wheel a little helping hand to get going. That might give some clues. If it gets going, that probably points to a bad bearing (could be in the motor or an external one).
UltimateAir was pretty responsive to my inquiries when I was shopping for an ERV. Have you reached out to them for support? Might it be under warranty still?
According to the manual, the wheel is belt driven. So that's another probable point of failure. The belt will ride on two or more pulleys, which also have bearings that could seize up, but I would find that surprising.
I guess it could possibly be under warranty. I will reach out to them. I added information in my previous reply re: the ERV sounding like it was running. And thank you for replying to my question.
Just called UltimateAir and you are right...very responsive and friendly. The gentleman also thinks belt.
