Energy-efficient home builders in Kansas?

KevinKT | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

I’m looking for a reasonably-priced home builder in the Kansas City area that’s willing to build a tight home with above-code insulation, somewhere close to being net zero energy ready.

I have a floor plan for a home that’s about 2000 sq feet, including the basement (which will not all be finished). I’ve worked with a realtor in my area that also builds homes, but he has not yet been able or willing to train his crews in energy-efficient home building techniques.

I’ve called several other builders in my area that would fit the project goals, but they screen out those with budgets under $500k. I’m realistic about the home not being inexpensive, but my budget is not that high.

Any helpful recommendations are appreciated!

    User-7228272,
First of all, can you tell us your name? (I'm Martin.)

You might start by contacting Russ Rudy, a home performance specialist and trainer, and ask him about recommended builders.

Russ Rudy can be reached at 785-537-2425 (that's the phone number of the Kansas Building Science Institute in Manhattan, Kansas) or at this email address: [email protected] . (I hope that contact information is still good.)
