David,
EEBA's been around for 28 years. They are a pioneering organization. EEBA members were building superinsulated buildings in the 1980s and 1990s when everyone else was framing with 2x4s and stuffing walls with R-11 batts.
EEBA conferences are worth your while.
Energy and Environmental Building Alliance is a wonderful, non-profit, educational group whose programs are always worth taking advantage of. They have a series of climate-specific Builder's Guides that are invaluable to the conscientious building professional.
We'd have lost our way during the dark ages (80's and 90's) if it wasn't for folks like the EEBA who continued to carry the torch for Energy Efficient buildings while conventional wisdom declared super insulation and tight envelopes to to be a waste of money.
"How energy nerds saved civilization" will be the title of that book. : )
Geez,
Parking at the conference hotel is $30/day. I've rarely spent more than that for a motel room.
Room internet is another $12.95/day. Hmm... that's almost $400 a month.
Is this what the "real world" costs today or is this some kind of energy-efficient fleecing?
Staying at your father-in-law's house on the river outside Portland... priceless
Eating salmon he's been catching... priceless
Admission to the conference itself is a little steep, but I still might go.
