Drip Cap Placement Question

Theminesweeper | Posted in General Questions on

I have two different types of siding going onto our house:  stained cypress and white LP Smartside board and batten.

Around the windows on the cypress sided portions I’m going to just install extended window jams and no trim similar to Scandinavian farmhouse style, because of the aesthetic and because the siding will extend about 2.25 inches proud of the windows.

Around the windows on the LP Smartside portions I was just going to use their trim around the windows.

My questions:
Should the drip caps go above or below the extended window jams and window trim?  Should the window trim on the Smartside portions have a sill that slants down with a kerfed edge underneath or should it be just the same trim pieces on all sides of the window?

I’ve seen both the drip caps and bottom exterior window trim done both ways I mentioned in my questions and I don’t know which way is correct.

We live in north central Arkansas where we get some pretty good storms many times a year.
