Community and Q&A

Dozens of old Q&As showing up now

ARMANDO COBO | Posted in General Questions on

In the last two hours, I’ve received two dozen old Q&A replies, with no new info. I’m I the only one getting these emails?

The GBA website issues continue, with no clear indication they are getting fixed for good!

I wanted to attach a screenshot picture but wouldn’t let me. 🤬🤬🤬

I wonder if it’s bots that are getting caught right after posting and after the email is sent.

There was an issue with notifications for this site. My guess it finally got fixed and what your seeing in the backlog of these notifications.

This looks to be the case. I’ve had dozens come in over the last day or so. Just got another batch a few minutes ago, so I came here to see if I was the only one. Guess not!

I've got probably 100 or more post notifications since this afternoon. They keep showing up about 10-12 at a time, every 1/2 hour or so. Looks like it's been catching up since late September, based on the post dates.

Yup, email is getting bombed. i unsubscribed form everything and still getting spammed.

I just added anothe bunch of emails. I wont be surpriced if by morning I'll count close to 100.

Its about time Active Interest Media and/or GBA spend some serious money in good IT personel. Over the last two years or so all these goof-offs are happening too often. Shameful!

I don't check the "send me email notifications" box and don't get any of those emails. I do miss the occasional response but that's a tradeoff I'm ok with. Other internet forums struggle with spam-bots as well; they get more clever every week.

Well, I missed my projection, I just counted 86. I always checked the "send me email notifications" to maintain the conversation, but I guess I'll change from now on. Oddly enough, I'm not getting notifications on this conversation... ugh?

The funny thing is that these issues have only happened to me here on the GBA.

You’ll get notifications from this conversation in six months, and all at once. :)

Hi all, I’ve brought this issue to the devo team. I am on standby.

Update from web devo team: "A fix was put in place that triggered a backlog of email notifications. There is not anything we can do once they are queued up to send. It will stop."

Any word on getting attachments to load? That seems to be down as well (unless it's just me).

I was just told "comment uploads are fixed."

On the bright side, it looks like quite a few commenters who asked a question and then vanished are coming back and letting us know what happened with their projects.

Perhaps this would be a useful feature to build in? As in, one year after a Q&A post goes dead the OP gets a notification to prompt them for an update on how things turned out?

Too many forum threads start with meaningful discussions but are never wrapped up by the OP.

I'd rather they had a feature that a thread gets locked after, say, 180 days of inactivity. It seem like when a thread comes back from the dead half the time it's spam, and half the time it isn't spam it's a new poster asking a new question that belongs in its own thread.

          DC,

I agree. Old Q+As should just be for reference.

97 so far today! I'm up to 372 emails now, and I'm sure by tomorrow I may have 500ish... any takers?

The GBA said it fixed the issue two days ago, but with three and four year old questions poping-up, this may be a long deal, unless I block the GBA entirely. Maybe its time to go!

I hope the new owners get a competent IT department before too long.

You can direct emails from GBA to go to your spam folder. I'm getting notifications for responses to a blog post I made and it is annoying for sure.

    2. freyr_design | | #20

You can also just make a folder and automatically add to that if you don’t want to go to spam

@Michael - I wish it was that simple. Every day, I still have to go through all spam emails just in case there is a good email that somehow got to spam. In any case is time consuming and an aggravation to say the list.
FYI, As of 12:45 pm, I have 481 GBA emails; about 400 more since I was told it was fixed!

Filter by sender and bulk delete. I know it's annoying to be buried in unwanted email but it's a solvable problem.

Glade this post was made today. I also received a pile of notifications today. Previously, I assumed that I had a setting incorrect in my profile.

@Beardoh - Well, I haven't received any emails since 1:30 PM, so hopefully it all stopped. I ended up with 502 emails. Let hope your count is not as bad.

  17. bimbomb | | #26

Same here. I posted a question in January, and I received no notifications of responses until yesterday. When I looked at the timestamp on the responses, they were from January. Something going on on the backend.

  18. Chris_in_NC | | #27

Looks like the post reporting engine has caught up with the backlog now. It was a minor inconvenience for a few days, but no harm done.

  19. Beardoh | | #28

I doubt the email blitz is over. On a thread I started a month ago, no notifications have arrived in my inbox. I definitely checked the notification box.

Personally, I’d like to get the reminders of activity, especially when it is mentioned who made a reply. Because of the ‘thread within a thread’ style of the bulletin board, it is difficult to find a follow up. The alternate style that uses the quote system is a little easier to follow for me. I guess both types have their plusses.
