Door threshold details?
Any details available for air/water connections for US style aluminum door thresholds?
I looked at the new 475 “Smart Enclosure” details; they show a window detail that seems likely to also be the detail for doors (attached screenshot). High level, I understand the approach to maintain the blue line exterior water and air barrier by taped connections to solid bottoms of the door (with applied threshold afterwards).
This is contrary to the “drained sill pan” approach typically undertaken with these doors with aluminum thresholds. For example these two approaches from Jake Bruton discuss this (“face sealing” an aluminum threshold door, vs drained sill pan for exposed windows)
Perhaps the european doors have entirely different threshold arrangements for which the smart enclosure window drawings adapt easily?
I understand the point of the drained sill pan, but it’s still a fairly large area effectively without insulation. Do passive house or other modelers account for that area in their models?
Any links to european details here?
