Dimpled Membrane as Thermal Break Under Steel Stud track in Basements

Maxxxx001 | Posted in General Questions on

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to use a dimpled membrane (R value 4) under steel stud track on a concrete slab in my basement. The goal is to prevent thermal bridging.

I’d love to hear your experiences or advice on this.

initially I was going to cut some XPS and put it under but not sure if that would make much differences ?

Thanks!
Cheers,

Lumber is the simplest. Since this not a lead bearing wall, you can use one of the higher density rigid foams as well.

Even better, forget the steel and build with wood for the walls. Simplifies a lot of things and will last just as long.

Thank you, I’m already installing the dimpled membrane on the floor that’s why the question.

Wood is to heavy and to messy unfortunately for me to use.

      Thank you

If you use steel you have to put it entirely on one side of the insulation.

    Maxxxx001,

I don't think it matters much unless you want to hang a bunch of heavy cabinets.
