Dimple Board Termination Cap

SeanRyan | Posted in General Questions on

I have Polyguard’s dimple board as a waterproof dimple mat on our basement foundation. Originally, I was going to buy some termination bar to cap the top of the board and prevent silt and dirt from getting into the system, which seems best practice.

However, I can’t find term bar locally and ordering it seems cost prohibitive given the size and scale (an owner building doing a one off project).

Shifting my focus here and thinking about using a tape. Any recommendations on a good tape that would work to adhere a filter fabric to concrete, and could be buried underground?

Any other ideas instead of a term bar or tape to work here?

Thanks all,

I've never done it myself but I don't see why you couldn't use ground contact pressure treated lumber. Get a 2x2, rip off one corner to notch over the exposed dimple mat edge, and caulk the upper edge to the concrete. This is pretty much what's done with a standard termination bar. You could paint it grey as well, so it matches the concrete. I'd probably paint it before installing it, then touch it up in place. That would be easier and neater.
Given the exposed situation I'd be hesitant to go the tape route.

If you know the profile, it would not be hard to have your local metal shop fabricate it on their brake.

typically you tuck the fabric behind the dimpleboard and against the WP membrane. if it's a 2" tail then that should be enough. then hold up the dimple board with strips of peel and stick until backfill is complete.

if you want to go over the top, then get some aluminum coil stock and bend a u-shaped cap piece -- overlap the pieces at least four inches. the dimpleboard is not UV-stable so it's double duty.

if you are super fancy, then make one end 1/16" wider than the other so that the pieces telescope into one another. one more over-the top thing would be a sealant fillet bead on top with a UV stable caulk.
