Hi
Does anyone have a recommendation for crawlspace exhaust fans?
Would an appropriately sized Panasonic be the simplest option?

Jill,
Panasonic fans have an excellent reputation. You would probably want to choose the WhisperWall model for rim-joist mounting.
Overventilation entails an energy penalty, so your fan may need a timer to be sure so that it only operates (for example) for 20 minutes per hour. The recommended ventilation rate is 1 cfm for each 50 square feet of crawl space floor area.
For more information on crawl space ventilation, see Building an Unvented Crawl Space.
I would suggest you also look at Tjernlunds products. They have some very nice ventilation solutions.
