Exterior Mineral Wood Board Without Roof Overhangs

imoldfella | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

40+ year old home, SE PA, 2×4 with fiberglass insulation. Stucco is bad here, so changing to hardiplank. We are putting on a new roof, getting rid of skylights, and installing solar. It’s a gable roof, cold roof, blown + fiberglass in attic. There is no duct work in the attic. It has ridge vent + soffit vents + gable end vents. We have a 5 ton heat pump.

It would be nice to go around with comfort board since the insulation is so obsolete and not very well sealed but the overhangs are not much (basically non-existent on the gable ends) so we’d have to build the roof out longer to cover it and I have trouble finding contractors that want to do anything even a little out of normal here. How worthwhile is this, and how hard is it for a contractor? Are there things I should consider instead?

Thanks!
