Cardinal Glass 366-i89 comparison
I am looking at purchasing windows for my new construction house. There are so many different companies out there it is kind of daunting. I live in North Alabama and it seems like the Cardinal Glass 366-i89 is a good option for the rating. Sun Windows is one of the few that offers Cardinal Glass. Is there equivalent performance in Integrity Marvin or Andersen? If so, which option is it for those brands? Other local supply companies carry MGM, Moss and Mi windows but they seem less superior. Any thoughts?

Hi Colby,
Will you please post the performance specs of the Sun Windows that you are considering?

Many window vendors (including the bigger ones) use Cardinal glass- but they don't always use Cardinal's name. I believe Andersen's Low-E4® SmartSun™ might be air filled LoĒ-366 / i89 glass.
Is the i89 option beneficial for North Alabama or should I leave it off? It seems it only holds heat in which may not be best for Alabama climate?
The i89 also cuts the solar gain, and keeps warm glass from radiating as much heat at you. It's still a benefit.
The only time a low-E coating on surface #4 would "hold heat" is if the temperature outdoors was cooler than the room temperature indoors, so that heat might be radiated out. That is a condition that doesn't happen (to any significant degree) during the cooling season.
I89 is most useful in heating dominated climates. In a climate with more need for cooling, SHGC is a more important parameter, and LoE-366 is about the heat option for that without severely impacting visual light transmission.
