Can you spray foam insulate the attic when there’s no plywood on the roof?

I live in CA, and I want to transition from a vented attic to a conditioned attic. My roofing materials are stone coated steel sitting on a radiant barrier which sits on a tyvek-type material. There is no plywood separating my roofing materials from the attic.
So my question is whether spray foam insulation is even possible without a rigid material like plywood on my roof rafters? I want to sound somewhat informed when I start asking for bids.
Thanks in advance…

I have a small section in my home that consists of closed cell foam sprayed on house wrap that was stapled to framing. I don't know if it is the best idea for a large area though. Be careful talking to the sales people at the insulation companies. A couple of them that I talked to didn't have a lot of knowledge, actually shockingly so. best of luck
