Can PEX be recycled with regular PE?

MIKE GUERTIN | Posted in General Questions on

We generate a bucket full of PEX pipe cutoffs on a typical job. Can we throw it in with regular curbside recycling that accepts polyethylene plastics or is there some difference with the crosslinking that prevents PEX from entering the regular recycle stream?

    Mike,
Good question. According to my limited research, municipal recycling programs do not appear to be accepting PEX scraps. I did find a PowerPoint presentation posted on the Web by the Swiss-based PEX Association that noted that "The PEX Association has a technical working group examining methods of recycling."
