Can AAC be used as slab edge insulation?

jollygreenshortguy | Posted in General Questions on

Does anybody have personal experience with using AAC block as a slab edge insulation?
Is the block too porous to use in a below grade condition like that, even though it wouldn’t be structural?
Would it help to give it a damp-proofing coat?
Any recommendations for a damp-proofing product?

If people want to know why I’m asking it’s because I’m looking at how to get good slab edge insulation in an area with termites. And yes, I’ll still be using a termite shield.

I don't have first-hand experience but I've looked into AAC blocks and other porous concrete blocks many times, and the typical advice is that they are fine below grade, but they are not waterproof so you need to fully protect the exterior with an impervious membrane. A quick Google search shows similar advice but I'm sure there are fine points I'm not aware of.
