Antimicrobials in plastic barriers

TlulaB | Posted in General Questions on

I am having an interior drainage system installed in my basement to address wall seepage.  The contractor will install plastic sheeting on the wall to direct water to the drain.  The plastic sheet contains an antimicrobial additive.  I’m concerned about the potential health effects of antimicrobial products and would appreciate any input on products that could be used that don’t contain antimicrobials.

I would assume the antimicrobial additive is to inhibit the growth of mold. I doubt you’d have a problem, but if the additive is a concern for you, just specify the use of plain polyethylene sheet which won’t have any additives.

There are also dimple mat products that might be better suited to this application than plain poly sheet too.

Thank you for the reply. I was not aware of dimple mat products and will look into that.
