Installing an ERV at an Angle
Angle of HRV/ERV Hanging
I have Panasonic Intellibalance ERV Cold Climate. This one – >https://na.panasonic.com/ca/indoor-air-quality/fresh-ventilation-filtration/energy-recovery-ventilators-erv/intelli-balancer-100-50-100-cfm-0
I would like to attach it to the underside of a downstairs stair case, approx 45 angle.
Panasonic recommends it to be attached upright or attached to a ceiling but does not specify an angle.
Is there ANY reason why installing on an angle would create an issue?

The dampers may not close
There may also be issues with condensate drain. Those are the two potential issues I see.
I installed a Panasonic exhaust fan in a skylight well (on a slope intersecting the roof pitch) and I was worried about (1) the backdraft damper opening in the first place and (2) closing when the fan was off.
Before I installed it, I ran tests with the unit to confirm it would be okay. If you already own your unit, you can do the same.
There is no condensate drain on an ERV…
The issue you might have is with gravity dampers, but you can always remove them and install replacements in the duct, or at the hood.
This is true
There is a chance it would be hard on any mechanical bearings.
I was thinking the same thing at first but remembered the blowers in my ERV are at 45deg already when the cabinet is mounted vertically.
