Air-to-Water Heat Pumps AHRI Listings

user-974621 | Posted in General Questions on

I am a heat pump installer and I’m having a hard time figuring out if air to water heat pumps are eligible for rebates. The ones I install all meet the requirements laid out by the utility (variable inverter compressors & fans etc.) except they don’t have an AHRI listing. They don’t even have a category for such heat pumps on the AHRI site, it seems all just geared towards forced air.  What’s the deal with that? The manufacturer of one brand (Arctic) told me the AHRI number is a cooling rating so doesn’t really apply to their units. I’m dubious though, Chiltrix apparently has one but most (Gree, Arctic, EnerTech, SpacePak) do not.

    Zac,

Burlington Vermont accepts this type of equipment (https://www.efficiencyvermont.com/Media/Default/docs/rebates/qpls/efficiency-vermont-awhp-qpl.pdf). Maybe they could give you some insight into why some utilities aren't.

I'm guessing that AHRI will get on board as soon as there are enough manufacturers producing/selling A-W heat pumps and asking for the dedicated listing.
