Adding a ventilated rainscreen

Hello. I am considering removing my siding and adding a rainscreen behind. (Climate 4a) However the siding now is flush with the windows and will then have a 3/8 inch gap behind. What’s the best way to handle this? In general do my windows need to be removed and reinstalled to add a rainscreen or can I do this without.  Thanks in advance.

    BPortnoy1,

    The simplest solution is to trim out the windows before adding the rain-screen, and have the siding butt up to the trim. Here is an example:
