Adding 2″ of rigid foam to exterior. What to do about rake boards?
Hi, I plan to re-side my house and add 2″ of rigid foam insulation under the new siding. This will create some issues with the windows and doors, which can be solved by extending the jambs / adding new trim. Where I’m not sure how to proceed is with the rake boards (see picture at link below). It seems like the siding will extend out past them, which won’t look good. Is there a solution? Thanks.

Unfortunately, when you don't have rake overhangs, the only solution is to create a new one in the location you need, which also means extending or replacing your roofing.
Currently same situation in 12 ACH50 1948 ranch. I have already put up double stud wall at one gable end as part of LR/fireplace wall redesign. Similar idea in Main BR, loss of space an issue so likely constrained to eg. 2" Zip R to interior with a new layer of drywall over it.
Thank you. The contractor mentioned that extending the roof will likely be needed, but this will add extra cost. I was wondering if there was another way that could work, but it sounds like there is not.
Not if you want to keep the overall aesthetics you have now.
I am in almost the same situation at my house in Maine. Depending on your climate and your interior vapor control, you might be able to get away with less insulation. I plan on adding two inches of GPS, but I also need to account for the thickness of the strapping for the rainscreen and siding. I need to make up at least 3.5 inches. At a minimum, I need to remove the old drip edge and either pad out new rake trim or add ladder-style overhangs that would have new roof decking tied back into the rafters to support the new overhangs. Either way, I'm digging into my roof and adding new trim, drip edge, and weaving new shingles.
