2×6 Exterior Wall with Rigid Retrofit

B3V1156 | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

Hello, has anyone come across a detail in the GBA library that shows a retrofit for an increased r value on an exterior wall? Similar to a Mooney wall. 1×3 or 2×4 furring running horizontally on the interior side of the exterior wall with rigid insulation, perhaps?

Thanks,
Garrett

Generally it is not worth it to mix rigid and double stud or Mooney wall. Pick one wall insulation strategy and build it to get the R value you need. Don't complicate your life.
