2” Rigid EPS + Faced Fiberglass Between Studs
I live in Pittsburgh, PA. I have a cinder block house from the 60s. Looking to finish my basement garage (~29’ x 27’). One wall is less than 50% underground while the second wall is all above ground, and the other wall was the garage door (now replaced with a sliding glass door).
I ran continuous 2” EPS on the interior. Then I studded inside of that and I want to insulate between the studs and cover with 1/2” moisture barrier drywall. (Purple faced).
I know rockwool is a more sustainable product and the acoustic and moisture resistance is superior but it’s also now more than double the price of unfaced fiberglass.
Is Rockwool really that superior? I don’t care about noise and the basement really isn’t that humid. No water concerns whatsoever.
Will I have any moisture issues if I use faced fiberglass? The basement is conditioned – has two vents and a return. Gets cold in the winter and can reach up to 65% RH when it’s been raining/humid and in the 90s for a week in the summer.
