Everyone has their own reason for wanting to build green. A couple of years ago as a fun little experiment I asked people at Building Science Summer Camp what the most important aspect of Green Building was. I expected a pretty straight across the board “Energy Efficiency” answer. I wasn’t surprised to get health, global warming, durability, and forest conservation as answers, but I was surprised that I got them so frequently.
That was before the Great Recession and the Big Housing Bust. Now, in hindsight, with energy prices skyrocketing, McMansions absolutely on the way out, and the housing industry looking for the next answer, what do _YOU_ think is the most important aspect of Green building? This week’s poll allows multiple answers because we at GBA understand that green building is not a one-dimensional topic. Please only vote for your top two topics.
If you vote for the ‘Other’ choice, please leave a comment below to fill us in on your reasoning.

WoW. No one has voted for water efficiency yet.
Surprising. Many experts say that water shortages will be the new energy crisis.
Wait
There are to votes for "other". Maybe indirectly, 2 people are thinking about water conservation.
Water conservation should be a priority along with conservation of ALL other resources (including energy).
Water
At this point, at the household tap, water is perceived as relatively inexpensive. Reduction could be quick with a few lifestyle changes (lawn watering, skip a flush, military showers). When energy was cheap, not many were concerned about conserving it.
Crisis situations are great motivators. The oil embargo of 1973 should have been motivator enough, but wasn't. Memories are short. 2 years ago when gasoline was $4/gallon, driving habits changed, Now gas is under $3/gallon and consumption is back up (From the eia/doe outlook).
Hopefully, when the first water crisis occurs, habits will change and stay changed (really, do we need 5 body sprays?).
