For a lot of homeowners, the complexities of energy efficiency upgrades can be as daunting as their cost, so it’s no surprise many builders and remodelers long ago became adept at demystifying and managing the entire process for their clients, from audit to final finish work and testing.
Now, that full-service strategy is being embraced by building-products giant Masco Corporation, whose Masco Home Services division this week launched an energy efficiency home-improvement program, called WellHome, in Austin, Dallas, Orlando, Phoenix, Tucson, and Ann Arbor, and in Nashua, New Hampshire.
“Our approach to home performance is to conduct a thorough assessment and diagnose the issues, but to also fix them, and then guarantee the energy savings,” WellHome’s president, Larry Laseter, said in a press release. “This full-service approach to comfort and home energy efficiency is unique to WellHome and will be the model as we grow nationally.”
Homestar compatibility
High up in the press release, Masco makes a point of noting that WellHome would mesh well with the ambitions of Homestar, a White House legislative proposal designed to create weatherization jobs and offer rebates for energy efficiency improvements for homeowners at any income level.
WellHome is an offshoot of Masco’s Environments For Living program, which offers an array of services – from plan reviews, training, and field testing to certification and marketing – aimed at helping residential builders add green construction and energy efficient performance to their projects.
As a consumer-oriented service, WellHome relies on Masco’s building-science expertise to analyze audit data and help homeowners use it to prioritize possible improvements based on the client’s budget and available tax credits, rebates, and other incentives. WellHome also offers financing and what it calls a Whole Home Energy Savings Limited Guarantee on energy savings generated by the improvements. Call 877-721-5907 for details. The WellHome website (which was not fully launched when we checked late Friday) is at http://www.wellhome.com
